Is Peninsula Institute for Community Health a free clinic?
No, PICH is not a free clinic. PICH is a community health center that offers primary care to everybody. PICH accepts patients with or without health insurance. Payments for services are based upon a sliding fee scale.
What is a sliding fee scale?
It is a discount. A sliding fee scale means that your payment is based upon your household income and family size. To apply for the sliding fee scale, you are required to show proof of income by providing two current pay stubs or a W-2 form. If you have no income, you must attest to that fact in writing.
Do I have to live in the same city as Peninsula Institute for Community Health to be seen?
No, PICH sees patients from many communities throughout Virginia.
I have insurance, does Peninsula Institute for Community Health accept insurance?
Yes, PICH accepts most major medical and dental insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. We also offer a sliding fee scale based upon your household income and family size.
I do not have insurance. Can I still be seen?
Yes, PICH accepts uninsured as well as underinsured patients. Your fees will be calculated according to a sliding fee scale, which is based upon your household income and family size.

Where is PICH located?
PICH has six (6) sites in Hampton Roads. See Locations.
What should I bring with me to my appointment?
You should bring your insurance card, picture identification, and a list of any medications that you are currently taking. To apply for the sliding fee scale, you must bring your last 2 pay stubs or other proof of income. Plan on arriving for your appointment at least 15 minutes early to complete the necessary paperwork.
What exactly is the Joint Commission?
The Joint Commission is an independent, not-for-profit, national body that oversees the safety and quality of health care and other services provided to accredited organizations.
